Future English ELF
The ELF programme for gifted students in the German Oberstufe was presented at the Münster Bildungskongress in September 2006.
English Learning for the Future is a creative, interactive, English as a Foreign or Second Language (EFL/ESL) enrichment programme for the German Oberstufe.
The programme has twelve goals
1. To learn how to creatively use the English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESL) on an enrichment world wide web site.
2. To discover how to utilize the worldwide web using the best tools available in the English language.
3. To find out with which kinds of multiple intelligences the learner feels most comfortable and to develop a personal learning programme in the light of that knowledge:
interpersonal
intrapersonal
kinaesthetic
logical-mathematical
musical
naturalist
spatial
verbal-linguistic
existential
tacit-intuitive
4. To start to map out a personal EFL learning style which is transferable to other language-learning as well.
5. To take a ‘time out’ to understand the rules of the game as you learn how to start and with whom and how discussion and reflection of choices will happen
6. To establish how and where learning path and commentary can most effectively happen.
7. To decide upon a path for thinking and learning in English as a foreign language which may open up a path for lifelong foreign
language learning.
8. To determine who will correct work submitted and how it will be done, how it will be assessed, where it will end up and why?
9. To start to develop a showcase portfolio which demonstrates the range of activities the learner is capable of in English and be clear about the competences which could go into an English Language Passport.
10. To prepare an English Language Biography in line with Council of Europe goals.
11. To be prepared to pass the German Abitur in English at Leistungs-or written Grundkurs or or oral Grundkurs levels.
12. To have motivated, creative fun learning English throughout the programme.
